Director's Note
This show is dedicated to Keith Haring (1958-1990).
Keith wrote both of these passages in his personal journals.
I see this play in both of them.

The Smog Frog
There once was a small Frog Who lived in the city. He didn’t like smog, And that was a pity. For all around him, This way and that, It seemed quite dim, So he told the Cat, To tell the Dog, To arrange a group, To fight the smog. And do you know what? They helped the Frog to stop the smog. --Keith Haring (in 1971 – age 13) |
…I’m sure it is our destiny to fail. The end is inevitable.
So who cares if these pigs kill me with their evil disease, they’ve killed before and will continue to kill until they suck themselves into their own evil grave and rot and stink and explode themselves into oblivion. I’m glad I’m different. I’m proud to be gay. I’m proud to have friends and lovers of every color. I am ashamed of my forefathers. I am not like them. …I’m not afraid of anything I’ve ever done. Not ashamed of anything. --Keith Haring (in 1987 – age 28) |
